A Vision for the Secondary School
Welcome to the King Faisal Secondary School!
The King Faisal School is a school with outstanding facilities. KFS is a school that recognizes the real test of quality for a school comes not at the material level, instead, it resides in the quality of teaching and learning in its classrooms, the level of engagement of its students, and the sense of pride it can sustain in the members of its community.
The Secondary School encompasses both the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) (ages 11 – 16); and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) (ages 16 – 19). The two programmes for the Secondary School and are closely integrated. They provide the very best foundation for students, as they approach tertiary studies and the world beyond.
These internationally recognized programs and the King Faisal School’s educational philosophy closely align. Fundamental to this alignment is a growth mind-set, founded in the process of inquiry. Students, guided and sustained within a supportive environment, have the opportunity to explore the world of knowledge and are introduced to the traditions of academic disciplines. At the King Faisal School students are immersed in learning and awaken to the magic of their own growth and development, the student’s agency in this process, and their capacity to contribute to their community and the world beyond is of paramount importance.
Fundamental to this process is an injunction, always be better than your best, and the strong conviction that your best effort, earnestly delivered, will always be enough. The curriculum does not merely subsist in the classrooms. While the highest standards of classroom learning is sought and achieved, and the curriculum also extends to the hallways, the gymnasium, and the wider-community. The curriculum addresses the whole person. The highest standards of behavior are insisted upon at the King Faisal School. The culture of discipline is one that places greater emphasis on self-regulation and the ability to manage one’s behavior. Good discipline, good habits, good conduct – these are the time-honored foundations for a good and productive life. Excellence of effort, excellence of conduct and excellence in achievement, they flow one from the other, but the first two are paramount. The curriculum is steeped in inquiry, in discovery of each student’s own unique potential for growth and the management and mastery of self, which brings this potential to fruition.
The King Faisal School is proudly a school for male scholars, educating the best that Saudi Arabia has to offer. This brings a uniquely special challenge to tailor and provide lessons that cater exclusively to the learning styles of young men. An enormous body of research has documented both the strengths enjoyed, and challenges faced, by young men within the classroom. The King Faisal School draws upon this research in constructing meaning and knowledge within the classroom culture to ensure an optimal learning environment, for boys.
The King Faisal School is proud of its national heritage and culture and equally proud of its international mindedness. It may be said, there are none more appreciative of their home than those who have left it. The international perspective connects the members of the KFS community to the world but also deepens our appreciation of our national tradition. The King Faisal School is a school of faith, the Islamic faith.
Welcome to the King Faisal School, a special place in Riyadh and a special place in the world.
